Sunday 4th February 2018 - the average speed is including stops, and average moving speed is 8.7 mph (which is still poor, but much of the route was busy). New Garmin - still getting the hang of it....
14th January 2018 - under instruction not to overdo things...
26th December 2017 - good spin but may have aggravated my Sciatica....
Sunday 3rd December 2017 - only new bit was a short stretch between Brunstane and River Esk Path - but at least I was going anticlockwise for a change. Bit of looping about to get to 30 miles today.
Extended home from Haymarket to secure the 40 miles for the day - Sunday 19th November 2017
Union Canal westbound Sunday 19th November 2017
Sunday 12th November 2017
24th September 2017 - local to ensure I was back for my soup!
Good 30 miles in - but the section from Balerno to Kirknewton was worse than it looked....
Sunday 29th October. The branch is quite steep from a standing start at Longniddry when your legs are already tired - that's what happens when you don't get a cycle for three weeks and insist on trying to get 30 miles, which I did by adding 2.5 miles back from Haymarket.
Clockwise circular with a Dalmeny House detour - how close was I to 2000 calories?
Home from Haymarket to get over 30 miles for the day
Fife Coastal Path - enjoyed most of it but there are a few bits which are less suitable for cyclists. Don't think I will be repeating it.
Sunday afternoon Balerno branch and back via the Union Canal 27th August 2017
Two weeks to Pedal for Scotland - good run out with pedalling most of the time.
Couple of dodgy readings but the average speed and distance all good... Loen, Norway
25th May 2017 - girls both out so just a run out. Managed to bag 279 on a 19 at Granton Square and a new Troms vessel into the bargain.
Local holiday Monday picks up Dunblane to Doune and then after an expensive stop to buy a lighweight rain jacket at Causewayhead, Menstrie to Alloa and then Alloa to Dollar giving three sections of closed railway. Alloa to Dollar is pretty gradient prone..
9th May 2017 - run up the Water of Leith Walkway and back - earned the beer and curry tea...!
6th May 2017 - wind at my back most of the way. The bit over the hill to Linlithgow from Bo'ness was a toil.
Lighter nights allowed the first weekday cycle of the year. I did not set out to draw the shape which I created - it was just a means of getting over 15 miles....
19th March 2017 - this was into a 20mph headwind the whole way. Add in a puncture just past Winchburgh followed by long stretches before Linlithgow which were very rough, and the pace fell away badly...
12th March 2017 - quick spin round before dinner. Happy with pace after a three week break...
Major pileup here. Wheel stuck in tramline. Didn't go well. Cracked elbow and various other damages which included a replacement saddle!
Wet and compacted leaves made for slow progress at times - that and too many hills. Over the bridge was easier than I thought!
First run with the new bike - good early pace held back by strong headwind along the front at Portobello. Slightly narrower tyres so taking it a bit easy at times in areas where there were leaves on the path....
Slow speed from Ravelston Dykes to Craigleith as I was caught up in the Kiltwalk - and then had the cheek to follow the route several times later on. Ian Rankin and Jackie Bird spotted (separately...) during the spin.
Reprise of the Port Edgar Branch from Dalmeny down the hill to re-video it. Back round via Dalmeny Estate but there are some pretty lumpy bits.
Pencaitland Railway Path - started and finished at Ormiston Station. As can be seen by the elevation gain, not terribly flat....
